What are we trying to Achieve?

Curriculum Statement

At Tuckswood Academy, we offer a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, as they progress through each year group.

The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and it is bespoke to ensure that it includes other experiences and opportunities which best meet the needs of all children in our school.  Our curriculum provides children with the key knowledge and thinking skills in all subjects to provide them with the foundations for life after primary school. For example, in History children will use the knowledge taught to be able to think like a historian and compare evidence. We believe that every child can achieve exceptional things.

Crucial to our children's success is their language development - the broadening of their vocabulary, the transitions from speaking and listening to reading and writing, and their enjoyment of language. Language will support our children to fulfil their potential both within the education system and in the wider world.

Through our Tuckswood 5 and PSHE curriculum children learn how to be considerate global citizens and the skills they need to keep themselves safe, have respect for others and be effective and lifelong learners.

We know that children cannot aspire to things they have not encountered.
The Tuckswood 50, alongside our curriculum, is designed to open up possibilities to pupils in terms of later education, jobs and life choices.

Our Vision

At Tuckswood Academy we believe that the child is at the centre of everything.  We aim to be caring, of the child, of each other, and of the wider community (including parents and carers).

All those involved with Tuckswood Academy strive to provide every child with opportunities to acquire the skills and knowledge to enable them to learn the things they need for a lifetime. They are encouraged to be engaged, enthusiastic and cooperative in their learning.

Our Values - The Tuckswood 5

We value all members of our school community. Our children are kind, curious, ready, resilient and proud. Embedding these values enables each child to be successful and ready to face the next stage of their life as global citizens.

We aim to
Be Kind

Be Curious

Be Ready

Be Resilient

Be Proud

Our school values underpin the Curriculum Drivers and these link together to allow the children to be the best they can be.

These drivers form the basis of everything we do and how we behave in and around school, from Reception to Year 6, in all aspects of school life.  They also support the teaching of British Values throughout the school.

Curriculum Drivers

Knowledge of the World

We believe our children need to develop an understanding about where they live and the wider world. Through learning about the world, we want them to understand their role in society and develop respect towards the environment, communities and religions.Throughout our  curriculum we teach the children the skills they need to be tolerant and respectful of others, work cooperatively and be physically and mentally health to enable them to face life's challenges.
